Free Comic Book Day 2018

18-05-05-16-10-29-729_deco.jpgSo Free Comic Book Day has come and gone and I have finally gotten around to making a little post about it.   If you read my blog you know that I had to have surgery on the Thursday before and wasn’t even sure if I’d be able to go.  There have been quite a few years I haven’t and it always annoyed me so I decided I wasn’t going to be thwarted this year.

I was feeling alright when I started out, I mean I felt ok, not great but ok.  However we hit just about every pothole in town on the way there and I’ll admit I was feeling a bit regretful of my decision by the time we got there.  For more LOLs they had moved the area from the upstairs to down in the basement this year, which meant navigating the staircase of doom to get down to where the action was.

It was fairly busy and there were a lot of kids there running around.  They were doing 10 free items for everybody, 20 for those wearing superhero t-shirts, and 30 for anyone in full costume.  Superhero T-Shirt; Check; 20 items for me; out of a selection of FCBD comics, back issues, and promotional items the store saves up from the year.  They had plenty of stuff to give away but most of the gold and silver tier books were gone by the time I arrived.  There were so many little kids there and they were starting to get low on the all ages comics too so I didn’t take anything from that table even though I really wanted that DC Superhero Girls comic and the Little Mermaid one.  Here’s what I ended up with:

  1. FCBD Avengers
  2. FCBD Riverdale
  3. DC Nation #0
  4. Marvel Rising #0
  5. FCBD Lady Mechanika
  6. FCBD Doctor Who
  7. FCBD Tank Girl
  8. Challengers of the Unknown #1
  9. Hawkeye and Mockingbird #1
  10. Showcase 94 Huntress #5
  11. Showcase 94 Arkham #4
  12. Showcase 94 Arkham #3
  13. Showcase 93 Huntress #10
  14. Vigilante #21
  15. New Titans #94
  16. New Titans #95
  17. New Titans #96
  18. Team Titans Annual #1
  19. Superman #18
  20. Marvel Universe Magazine

Afterwards I went home and took a really long nap.  How did you guys make out, anything cool?  [Oh, and that top image is just me playing around with photo apps and transforming myself into 2D.]

Doing Ok Here

Just wanted to drop a little note and let everyone know that I had the surgery yesterday and it went well as far as we can tell.  I was able to have the microscopic outpatient surgery thankfully.  I spent most of yesterday sleeping the anesthesia off and I’m extremely sore but up and about today.   Expected to be back to a halfway normal routine in 2 to 4 weeks.  If I’m feeling ok tomorrow I’m going to hit the LCS for Free Comic Book day, if not some of my family are going out for me.   Thanks for your well wishes and hope everyone out there is doing fine.

Sorry for the Sporadic Posting

stephen_strange_28earth-61629_performs_surgery_in_doctor_strange_vol_1_169

Sorry for the sporadic posting.  I ended up having to go to the emergency room in the middle of the night last week and I’ve had three doctor appointments since that.  If nothing goes wrong I’m scheduled to have surgery next Thursday and expect to be down and out for awhile after that.  I’ve been suffering with seemingly random bouts of intense pain, nausea, and vomiting [I know, thanks for telling you that right?  :-P] that last for hours on end.  They’ve told me it’s my gallbladder and having it removed should cure me.  I’m disappointed that I’m having to do this so close to Free Comic Book Day.   I hope the rest of you get some good stuff though.

TGIF & X-Men Gold Vol. 2: Evil Empires

61qzv3yzgfl-_sx323_bo1204203200_

This week has been exhausting on so many levels.  Somehow I managed to completely forget that this week was spring break and my sweet little devil was at home with me all week.  I have new appreciation for all the times I complained to my own parents that I was BORED!

Then I had to deal with getting a new washing machine.  Which necessitated moving half the house around in order to clear a path in an out big enough for a washing machine to pass through…  Believe me when I tell you how much you take for granted the simple ability to do your laundry until you can’t.  Ah, anyway I finally got to sit down this evening after putting the boy wonder to bed.  And I finished…

The rest of the issues that make up X-Men Gold Vol. 2: Evil Empires on the Marvel Unlimited App.  I’m still really liking this title even though I don’t think the issues are all that groundbreaking overall.  I like the character line up.  I like the teams dynamic but they are missing a bit that would really kick it up to Gold Level.  Looking forward to continuing to read it though.

2018 is here…

Stabbing Stardust_001

Wow!  2018 is here and the days have just flown by.  2017 was not a good year for blogging or comic reviews that’s for sure.  I hope this year will be better.  I’ve read a ton of stuff but just couldn’t find the time or motivation to write last year.  I changed the background on the site today and need to do a lot of updating.  I wonder if my followers have all given up on me?  Haha, well I can’t blame them if they have.  Lets have a great year everyone! 🙂

  • Write seven interesting things about you

Seven interesting things about me…. hmmm… I guess this is a relative question but here goes.

  1. The first comic I ever remember buying new was a Wonder Woman comic, but I didn’t end up liking it very much.  I just couldn’t understand why the Amazons didn’t want to fall in love with a man and live happily ever after.  They seemed to be a bunch of hateful weirdoes to me.
  2.  I voted in the infamous should we kill Robin poll, but because I was a little kid I was confused because I thought the Robin they were going to kill was Dick Grayson.
  3. I constantly check to make sure that the house doors are locked and that I haven’t left the stove on, if the thought crosses my mind while I’m in bed I have to get up and check or I absolutely cannot sleep.
  4. When I was a kid I would sometimes sleepwalk, and once woke up in the middle of the night laying down in the woods behind our house.  Terrifying.
  5. In grade school when my class went to Atlanta for a field trip I ditched my group, and went to the museum of natural science by myself… nobody noticed and I met back up with them at the meet up spot without a hitch…  sometimes I’m amazed I’m still alive.
  6. I’m kind of minimalist about clothing.  I only own like 4 pairs of blue jeans and a few pair of really comfortable shoes.  I have a good many shirts like superhero t-shirts I’ve collected but own only two dress up outfits — one suitable for funerals and one suitable for weddings.
  7. I love big, juicy historical romance novels that are set in the regency era, the less politically correct they are the better.

Well, that was all I could really think about saying about myself.  I don’t really know who to tag for this but if you read this and you like to do it please consider yourself tagged by me, and enjoy! 🙂

What Natalie is up to in April of 2016.

Hi, guys!  I wanted to thank everyone who has followed my blog recently.  Here are a few things going on with me…

So, what am I doing in April?

Well for starters I’ve started a second blog on WordPress called Beauty Adventures Blog where I talk about well you know things like nail polish, shampoo, and makeup.  What?!?  Natalie does something besides read comic books?  You know I’m a girl right?

I’ve also been working on my little garden but they are still predicting frost this weekend so I’ve held off on getting my plants still.  If the weather is good enough tomorrow I’ll set up the last of my tomato and bean cages.

And what about comics?  Well, I’ve got 16 graphic novels that I need to post reviews for ASAP, so I will be trying to knock those out in the next few weeks.

I also got an audiobook approval for  Crimson Son by Russ Linton, a superhero prose novel that I’ve started and seems quite promising so far; –but of course I will reserve judgement until I’ve finished the book.

And last but not least over on Goodreads the Superheroes and Comic Book Club is reading The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Vol. 1: Squirrel Power by Ryan North, Erica Henderson as our April Graphic Novel of the Month and our Prose Novel of the Month is Please Don’t Tell My Parents I’m a Supervillain by Richard Roberts.  So please come join us over there for the discussion threads.

I’ve been so sick this year it isn’t funny.

puffs-plus-lotion-facial-tissues-family-boxesI have a ton of backlogged book reviews I need to catch up on and I still feel at about 50% capacity to do anything.  I’m so tired and it’s pretty hard to string any coherent thoughts together.  That could be because I’m loaded on medicine.   This is the fourth time I’ve been on antibiotics in a relatively short period of time.

My son had outpatient surgery this week to put tubes in his ears because of the chronic ear infections he’s had all fall and winter.  He, my husband, and I have just been passing this crud back and forth to each other for months on end now.  I’m exhausted — I think I’ve spent the better part of the last two weeks laying on my couch in pain and misery.

Four days into this last round of meds and I am actually beginning to feel a tad bit better.  I can mostly breath through my nose now which is a vast improvement.  I’m sleeping a little bit better because the coughing is less.  Now if the never ending headache would abate I’d be at like 65%…

On a positive note I did score 3 of the new DC Superhero Girls Dolls that I’m pretty excited about and I’ve got a lot of reading to catch up on.  Hopefully I’ll be back to posting reviews and things by the end of the week; and I hope you are all doing well.
