Meaningful Mondays 4/22/2019

QuotesCreator

Meaningful Mondays are scheduled posts that I’ve prepared.  They may include some trite but true sayings, quotes, memorable dialog, and bits of humor I’ve come across.   I’ll be getting together some good comic book quotes soon too.

DC Universe: Brightest Day [Updated 4/7/19]

Comic_001

I’m twenty issues into Brightest Day now and I’m just reminded of how much I loved this era of comics.  The first issues are kind of a set up of who’s involved and where they are.  Then you get the first small arc of it that plays out in space with the Green Lantern Corps and the Alpha Lanterns [OMG, do I find the Alpha Lanterns horrifying. :-(]  Now we are getting into what’s going on with the return of Jade, Alan Scott’s daughter, and also the Dick Grayson Batman era of the Justice League.   It’s just fun, ya know?  😉

Brightest Day

This is a story-line that started in 2010 and directly followed the events of the Darkest Night event story-line.  Twelve resurrected characters are the focus of the story.

DC Universe has listed 116 issues for this story-line.  I plan on listing them here as I read so I can keep up with it.

  1. Brightest Day #0
  2. Justice League: Generation Lost #1
  3. Justice League: Generation Lost #2
  4. Green Lantern #53
  5. Green Lantern Corps #48
  6. Brightest Day #1
  7. Green Lantern #54
  8. Green Lantern #55
  9. Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #1
  10. Brightest Day (2010-) #2
  11. Brightest Day (2010-) #3
  12. Green Lantern Corps (2006-) #49
  13. Green Lantern Corps (2006-) #50
  14. Green Lantern Corps (2006-) #51
  15. Green Lantern Corps (2006-) #52
  16. Justice League Of America (2006-) #44
  17. Justice League Of America (2006-) #45
  18. Titans: Villains For Hire Special (2010-) #1
  19. Justice League Of America (2006-) #46
  20. Justice Society Of America (2006-) #41

DC Universe: Brightest Day

Comic_001

It’s been months since my last post on this blog.  There have been a lot of contributing factors to that.  Just having real world things going on and a major point was a very old, half running computer that I’ve replaced this week.  Right now I am making my way through the Brightest Day story line on DC Universe.  This post is mostly for my own reference.

I know that I have read the main miniseries for this and the Green Lantern books when it came out but I don’t recall if I have ever read any of the other tie-ins or not.  Honestly at this point I’ve read it so long ago that it might as well be a fresh read for me.  I’ve enjoyed the first six issues that I finished today.

  1. Brightest Day #0
  2. Justice League: Generation Lost #1
  3. Justice League: Generation Lost #2
  4. Green Lantern #53
  5. Green Lantern Corps #48
  6. Brightest Day #1

DC Universe App: One Month In

20181109_155838.jpg

I’ve been too busy reading comics to write about them apparently.  How has it been 11 days since my last post? Time just gets away from me sometimes.  I’ve been using the DC Universe app a lot since it came out; and have been having fun with it.  I go on there probably four or five times a day and just read a comic or two, watch an episode of something, or chat on the message boards.

Oh, and I wanted to tell everybody that I got a prize pack for being a “Community Hero”.  Wich is I guess a prize for generally having decent behavior on the message boards and answering peoples request for recommendations and the like.  I thought it was really cool and I was excited to get it.  I got two action figures, 2 trades, and 5 single issue comics.  Here is the letter that came with it:

In the mornings I get up and read a comic book while I have my coffee and in the evenings I’ve been watching the DC Daily episodes to unwind a bit.  As far as the new show, I am loving Titans so far.  I’m even beginning to warm up to this version of Starfire a little bit.

I’m happy enough with the service but they do have a few issues that I hope they can improve on.  I won’t get into each minuscule nit-pick.  My single biggest issue is that they need to make improvements to the comic curation.  I don’t have a problem with the quantity of the comics (Around 2500, as advertised.); my problem is that good chunk of those are incomplete stories.  That’s just not cool.  There has been some indication that they are aware of the general satisfaction of users about that;  but so far they have only made a few tweeks to the site since the launch.  I am eagerly awaiting more news, hopefully in December.

Blog Under Construction

I’m trying to work on the site layout so you may see a lot of changes going on.  Not sure what I’m going to do with it yet.  I’m also starting physical therapy this week so we’ll see how that works out for me.  I think I have something like a dozen or more doctor/dental/optometrist appointments this month between me and my son, not to mention Thanksgiving so it’s looking like it’s going to be a busy, busy November this year.

I’m feeling pretty enthusiastic about comics at the moment so I do plan on making some posts if I can find the time.

Also I ended up purging all the images from my sites so you may notice that.  I don’t know if I’ll go back to old posts and add images back in or not.  Probably will just start fresh.

October 2018 Preorders

It’s that time again, when I finally have to commit to making my monthly preorder of comics.  So, anyway I ordered:

Batman #60 & #61
Batman And The Outsiders #1
Batman Annual #3
Batman Who Laughs #1 (of 6)
Freedom Fighters #1
Green Lantern #2
Martian Manhunter #1 (of 12)
New Talent Showcase 2018 #1
Nightwing #54 & #55
Shazam #2
Suicide Squad Black Files #2 (of 6)

I didn’t see a solicit for Heroes in Crisis or Doomsday Clock this month.  I realized when I was going over my orders that I actually forgot to preorder Batman #58 & #59 last month.  Derp-de-derp!  Now I’m going to have to run out and look for those.

I keep going back and forth about Batman Who Laughs, Freedom Fighters and Martian Manhunter but I ended up ordering them anyway.  If the first issues don’t impress I’ll just dump them and move on to greener pastures.  I’m finding it much easier to break up with bad books these days.  🙂

So what did you just have to have?

Happy Halloween ComicFest 2018!

20181027_164058.jpg

Happy Halloween Comicfest.  I got a few freebies today and hit the buy 1 get 2 free sale at my LCS.  Also picked up all four of the Walmart #4’s… However, now I have parts of mini series that I’m going to have to put on my fill list so I can get the missing parts.

Tomorrow I will be carving pumpkins with my son, and after that I think I’m going to order pizza and veg out with the TV.  Hope you are all having a lovely weekend, whatever you may be doing.  🙂
