DC 100 Page Giants

While I was out buying meat for my 4th of July cookout [It was delicious!  Hope you had a lovely 4th as well!]; I saw these 100 page giants at my local Walmart.  I thought at first that these were some one shots but after taking a better look I think these are going to have more than just a #1 issue.  They all have 3 reprint issues and one 12 page original story in them.  It’s kinda anybody’s guess when or if these are intended to be part of the main continuity.

The Batman Giant had reprints of Batman #608, Nightwing #1, and Harley Quinn #1.  The original story is titled One More Chance, and seems to be a two part story.  It’s about Batman tring to track down a missing child that’s been kidnapped.  Appears to be a fairly typical Batman story.

The Justice League of America Giant has reprints of Justice League #1, The Flash #1, and Aquaman #1.  The original story is Wonder Woman The Conversion.  Featuring Steve Trevor and Ares, while Wonder Woman tries to save some girls on their way to a humanitarian aid conference.  This story wasn’t particularly good or bad.  I don’t know if it’s a lead in to the next issue or not.

The Superman Giant had reprints of Superman/Batman #1, Green Lantern #1, and The Terrifics #1.  The original story is Superman Endurance and seems to be a two part story.  I actually liked this story the best but I don’t know if I could really tell you why.  The set up is that Clark is sent out to write a report on why people who live in areas typically hit by tornadoes don’t just move somewhere else.

The Teen Titans Giant had reprints of Teen Titans #1, Super Sons #1, and Sideways #1.  The original story is titled Enter… The Disruptor!  They manages to pack a lot into a few pages with this one.

I’m hoping I’m able to pick up the second issues when they come out… I’m seeing some disheartening reports of scalpers moving in on these; and that they have fairly low print runs; and aren’t even available at all stores.  Hope my friends out there were able to get them if you wanted them.

I've been reading and collecting comics since the early 1980's. My absolute favorite comic characters are Dick Grayson, and Kitty Pryde, but I like lots of others too! I started collecting single issue comics when I was about 7 or 8 years old and it's been a lifelong passion of mine.

  1. I was looking forward to these after reading about ’em on Bleeding Cool, if only to check out the first issues.

I got mine on Saturday (“street date” was July 1–Sunday, but they apparently dropped as early as Friday or so?).

I believe all 4 dropped July 1, and then beginning in August, 2 will hit every 2 weeks. I’m in Walmart at least weekly for groceries, so I’m assuming it hopefully won’t be TOO difficult to track them down.

I had other stuff (I think) to say, but my brain is fried right now.

Cool that you saw them; I was glad to see this pop up in my email; to see you posting about them!

    1. Thanks for the heads up about the schedule. I guess I didn’t get the memo on this one, but glad I spotted them before they were gone. I think I got the last copy of Teen Titans that they had. There are actually a couple of titles being reprinted in these I don’t get so that adds to the value a little bit. I kinda liked the slightly retro looking cover layouts too. 🙂

  2. 2 things: #1, just a quick howdy ‘n hello…haven’t seen any posts in awhile, so wanted to say hi and wish you well and such! Certainly *hope* everything is well!

#2…rather annoyed at my local walmarts (4 of them so far) that have not had the 2nd issues out yet. They “restocked” on the 1st issues, but I’ve yet to see any #2s.

Does NOT bode well for regularity and keeping up with these. At $5 a pop, I’m either going to “keep up with” or else “lose track of” these 100pagers. I liked the idea of 2 every 2 weeks–“only” $10 twice a month. $20 in one shot is a bit much for any regular basis.

    C’est la vie!

Best to ya and happy August wishes to you!

    1. Hi, Walt! 😉 The truth is I’ve just been sick again. I won’t go into the details but I’ve been making the rounds of the local hospitals and doctors offices. I ended up having to have another surgery about two weeks ago. I feel ok but I’m tired a lot. I was able to pick up the Superman and Justice League #2 a few days ago but haven’t read them yet. I noticed that they had restocked on the #1’s at our store too.

      1. Aww… I’m glad it sounds like you’re ok despite the tiredness! That’s the main thing! Certainly don’t wanna pry, but DO want to make sure you know your absence is noticed!

Making rounds of hospitals and doctors/offices is never fun…dealing with some stuff on this end with my dad, so I have that idea, at least, of where you’re coming from!

I found those two #2s…a few days ago; bit of a fog on stuff right now.

Well…for the moment, best wishes to you, and wishing you a great evening!
