DC Memorial Day Sale

unnamed

If you didn’t already know DC has a big digital sale going on right now across multiple platforms.  [Amazon Kindle, Comixology, DC Comics App, Google Play, Apple] Advertised as books up to 85% off.  A lot of graphic novels and collections are priced at $5.99 right now.  I usually buy at least a couple of volumes when these sales come around.  This time I picked up:

  1. DC’s the New Frontier by Darwin Cook
  2. 52 Volume One by Geoff Johns
  3. 52 Volume Two by Geoff Johns
  4. Batman and Robin Eternal Volume One by James Tynion IV and Scott Snyder
  5. Batman and Robin Eternal Volume Two by James Tynion IV and Scott Snyder

I have a kindle fire so I always buy my books on Amazon because it makes them available in my comixology account too; and if it’s in your comixology account you can also read it in the DC comic app which I like for being able to see just my DC books.  I haven’t decided if I want to get anything else this time or not.  I’m trying to decide if the three volumes of Future’s End are worth $18 to me.  Or maybe grab a couple of Min-Series collections?  Or should I start getting the 1980’s Flash run? Hmmm…

I've been reading and collecting comics since the early 1980's. My absolute favorite comic characters are Dick Grayson, and Kitty Pryde, but I like lots of others too! I started collecting single issue comics when I was about 7 or 8 years old and it's been a lifelong passion of mine.

  1. I’m gonna have to look at this sale. I just cancelled my Marvel Unlimited subscription last week because they broke the older app, and my tablet is physically incapable of running the current app.

I”ve noticed these sales have gone up to $5.99, and I’m wary of their wording of “up to X%” off. I’m most likely to jump on something with several hundred pages for the $5.99 than the smaller books. I don’t like that a 4-issue volume normally $9.99-12.99 will be $5.99, and a 20-something issue volume will be $5.99 but there’s nothing (with the interface I use through the DC app) saying 1. the normal price nor 2. the % off this $5.99 is (20% vs 83%, etc) to highlight the better-value deals.

That said, I recently went with the 52 book two (27-52) for $5.99, as I saw the price AND discovered sometime in the quasi-recent past I’d bought book one, so why not complete the pair digitally?

I’d also done the same awhile back with the big Knightfall volumes.

It’s a shame they don’t have stuff for a “build your own collected edition” for $X price. Say, with a sale like this, choose up to 18 single issues, name it, and have it put a file in your account that links all the issues as a single collection. (Heck, imagine customizability…have that, have some “virgin” cover images from stuff contained, have relevant title logos, and then choose text and color, to make your own. “DC Zero Hour: Zero Month vol 1” would be one I’d do, with a bunch of the #0 issues.

    1. Yeah, I understand the annoyance with the fact you have to dig to find the good deals. The best ones are usually the stories that have collections with 12 to 25 comics in them. I think DC has a lot of books that they haven’t even gotten into digital format yet. One of the things I’ve wanted to get for the longest time are the Countdown books and they still aren’t available. I’m considering just buying a set off of e-bay.

I’m still holding onto the faint hope that someday there will be a DC Unlimited… That stinks about the Marvel App not working for you anymore. That happened to me one time they updated and then on the next update it worked again. 🙂
